Bill Johnson’s Jesus

Many are awakening to the occult and new age influence emanating from Bethel Church in Redding California.

Neo-Gnosticism – experiences and knowledge with the pursuit of third heaven encounters were Jesus’ path to “Christhood” and should be ours…

along with –

syncretism – the merging of other religions (whether pagan, new age or simply elements of the world) with Christianity…

and

doctrines of demons – the diminishment of the nature of Jesus Christ, His mission, or His words….

produce….

another Jesus.

Here are some quotes from two books by Bill Johnson

“Jesus modeled what life could be like when a person neither grieves nor quenches the Holy Spirit. It is for this reason that we see such a great measure of the presence of God in the person of Jesus. John said of Jesus, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.” (John 1:32) Certainly this is not talking about the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit that was already in Jesus’s life. This was the inauguration of Jesus’ ministry, and the Holy Spirit came to rest upon Him as a mantle of power and authority for that specific purpose. But the fact that the Holy Spirit came to rest on Him is evidence of Jesus’ faithfulness to be perfectly trustworthy with the presence of God. The same principle is true for us.”

Face to Face with God pp.21,22

” As previously stated, Jesus set aside His divinity, choosing instead to live as a man completely dependent on God. In doing so, He not only modeled a supernatural lifestyle, but He also illustrated that the ultimate quest is for the face of God. His lifestyle of both fasting and praying on the mountain throughout the night – a lifestyle He no doubt had established long before the Spirit descended upon Him – demonstrated his unquestionable priority to seek God’s face.

To say that Jesus came both to manifest the face of God and illustrate the quest for his face may sound a little confusing, but both are true. Remember, Jesus modeled for us what it looked like to grow in favor with God as well as with man. The heavenly Father responded to His Son by giving an open heaven, which was followed by words of affirmation, saying, “This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” It was in this encounter that the Father released the Holy Spirit upon His Son, enabling Him to manifest His face to the world.

The Father, by the Holy Spirit, directed all that Jesus said and did. It was the intimacy that Jesus had with His heavenly Father that became the foundation for all the signs, wonders, and miracles performed in His three and a half years of earthly ministry.

As we saw in the last chapter, Ezekiel made the prophetic declaration, “I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have poured out my Spirit on them” (Ezekiel 39:29) The face of God is revealed in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The outpouring of the Spirit also needed to happen to Jesus for Him to be fully qualified. This was His quest. Receiving the anointing qualified Him to be called the Christ, which means “anointed one”. Without the experience there could be no title.”

Jesus manifested the face of God to mankind. But it was only when He was taken away that He could release His experience to become their experience. And so He sent the Holy Spirit to come upon them. This meant that they could have their own encounter with God’s face in a way that was not available through Jesus Himself. In other words, Jesus’ experience was to become the normal experience of all who follow. This encounter brings us into the ultimate transformation, that we might become the ultimate transformers.”

Face to Face with God pp.108-110

“Jesus had no supernatural capabilities in Himself. Everything He did, He did as a man, completely dependant on the Holy Spirit. He emphasized this point by saying, “The Son can do nothing of Himself.’

While He is 100 percent God, He chose to live with the same limitations and restriction that man would face once he was redeemed. He made that point over and over again. If He performed miracles as God, I am still impressed, but not compelled to follow. His example would be admirable, but unattainable. Yet it is obvious that He intended His disciples to do all that He did and more. Realizing that He did all the miracles as a man, I am responsible to follow the example He established, and pursue the spiritual realms He said were available to me. By doing it this way He became a model for all who would become His disciples, thus embracing the invitation to invade the impossible in His name. He performed miracles, signs, and wonders as a man in right relationship to God…not as God. Recapturing this simple truth changes everything…and makes possible a full restoration of the ministry of Jesus Christ in His Church.”

One of the tragedies we experience in this is that great truths have been reduced to doctrine, and are avoided as experiences. Near the top of the list is the wonderful declaration that we are seated “in heavenly places in Christ.” It has come to be a comforting promise for those who have problems, instead of a revelation of something that is available in Christ to all who believe. It is to be a third heaven experience that gives us a perspective on reality that no doctrine can accomplish in itself. This is very instrumental in learning to see things from God’s perspective. Out of that place of intimacy we are uniquely positioned for purpose. And all who taste of this reality begin living from Heaven toward earth.

Jesus showed us what one person could do who has the spirit without measure.”

Brian Simmons and The Passion Translation Deception

The Passion Translation (paraphrase) and the ministry of Brian Simmons is a fine example of what is wrong with a portion of the charismatic church.  Leaders and teachers within the “ movement” that embrace preterism and Kingdom Now/Dominionism or Seven Mountain Mandate (or whatever branch of NAR beliefs are popular at this moment) see themselves as doing the work of the Holy Spirit. There is a level of manipulation and control at work- in this movement- that is scary.  Please read the following comments concerning the Passion Translation (paraphrase) and tell me if you think the Holy Spirit needs help in illuminating His own Word.  The first manipulation is calling this work a translation and advertising it as excellent for studying God’s Word.

“The Passion Translation is an excellent translation you can use as your primary text to seriously study God’s Word because it combines the best aspects of what is called formal and functional equivalence Bibles.

Why another Bible translation? The reason is simple: God wants His message of love to be received in every culture, every community, and every language. God refuses to meet us only in an intellectual way. God also wants to meet us heart level, so we must let the words go heart deep—which is what we’re trying to do with this project. To bring words that go right through the human soul, past the defenses of our mind, and go right into our spirit. There is a language of the heart that must express the passion of this love-theology.”

This version taps into the love language of God, letting the words of Scripture go through the human soul, past the defenses of our mind, and into our spirit.”

All quotes were taken from The Passion Translation website.

Let’s stop accepting control and manipulation in the name of God.  Also…let’s stop ignoring this stuff.  A little leaven? This whole movement is becoming a mass of spreading yeast.

Here are some examples of the manipulation involved in this translation.

“Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.”  1 Corinthians 15:34 (NKJV)

“Come back to your right senses and awaken to what is right. Repent from your sinful ways. For some have no knowledge of God’s wonderful love.  You should be ashamed that you make me write this way to you! “ 1 Corinthians 15:34 (Passion Translation)

“Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” Galatians 6:1 (NKJV)

“My beloved friends, if you see a believer who is overtaken with a fault and has fallen from the place of victory, may the one who overflows with the Spirit seek to restore him to fellowship with the Anointed One. Win him over with gentle words, which will open his heart to you and will keep you from exalting yourself over him.” Galatians 6:1 (Passion Translation)

But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom[a] the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. Galatians 6:14,15 (NKJV)

“My only boast is in the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus, our Messiah. In him I have been crucified to this natural realm; and the natural realm is dead to me and no longer dominates my life. Circumcision doesn’t mean a thing to me. The only thing that really matters is living by the transforming power of this wonderful new creation life.” Galatians 6:14,15 (Passion Translation)

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…” Philippians 2:5 (NKJV)

“And consider the example that Jesus, the Anointed One, has set before us. Let his mindset become your motivation.” Philippians 2:5 (Passion Translation)

“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” Colossians 1:9 (NKJV)

“Since we first heard about you, we’ve kept you always in our prayers that you would be filled to overflowing with the revelation of God’s pleasure over your lives. This will make you reservoirs of all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” Colossians 1:9  (Passion Translation)

“And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—  if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.” Colossians 1:21-23 (NKJV)

“Even though you were once distant from him, living in the shadows of your evil thoughts and actions, he reconnected you back to himself. He released his supernatural peace to you through the sacrifice of his own body as the sin-payment on your behalf so that you would dwell in his presence. And now there is nothing between you and Father God, for he sees you as holy, flawless, and restored!  Continue to advance in faith, assured of a firm foundation to grow upon. Never be shaken from the hope of the gospel you have believed in. And this is the glorious news I preach all over the world.” Colossians 1:21-23 (Passion Translation)

”To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27 (NKJV)

“Living within you is the Christ who floods you with the expectation of glory! This mystery of Christ, embedded within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of glory for his people, and God wants everyone to know it!” Colossians 1:27 (Passion Translation)

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” Colossians 2:8 (NKJV)

“Beware that no one distracts you or intimidates you in their attempt to lead you away from Christ’s fullness by pretending to be full of wisdom when they’re filled with endless arguments of human logic. For they operate with humanistic and clouded judgments based on the mindset of this world system, and not the anointed truths of the Anointed One. “ Colossians  2:8 (Passion Translation)

“And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses.” Colossians 2:13 (NKJV)

“This “realm of death” describes our former state, for we were held in sin’s grasp.  But now, we’ve been resurrected out of that “realm of death” never to return, for we are forever alive and forgiven of all our sins!” Colossians 2:13 (Passion Translation)

Oh…there is so much more.  Beware deception…even when it is embraced and applauded and is released by a seemingly sweet man.  It is still deception and dangerous.

Jonathan Welton: A Preterist and His Supporters

According to Apostle Dr. Jonathan Welton…
The first resurrection occurred in the first century.
The marriage supper of the Lamb has already happened.
We are in the new heavens and the new earth.
We are not to look forward to the coming of Jesus Christ.
Please read some examples of what he is teaching after the following…
Here is a list of the friends and supporters of Jonathan Welton.  I have listed the names of those who have written blurbs or forwards or recommendations for his books.  I have also listed those that have participated in conferences with him.
Beware of who your leaders are allowing in to your church.  Question the pastors and prophets who would embrace a teacher who denies the first resurrection.
This is not a game.
This is heresy from an accepted teacher in the charismatic movement.

Here are some quotes from The Art of Revelation by Apostle Dr. Jonathan Welton…
I used to believe the marriage supper of the Lamb was a far distant future event, but our only picture of the timing is in Revelation 19: 7, “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.” According to this verse, the marriage happened right after Heaven rejoiced over the AD 70 destruction of Jerusalem. It happened right before the beast, the false prophet, and those who took the mark of the beast were all judged in Revelation 19: 11– 21.

When this happened, the Christian reality changed for the better. On the other side of AD 70, we are not looking forward to Christ’s coming and the end of the age. We get to live in the current reality of His promises and the fullness of the new covenant.

We are now the Bride of Christ. We are not waiting for the marriage supper of the Lamb. We are already married to Him.

Edition.

Now that we understand the phrase heaven and earth, we can see that the new heaven and new earth refer to new covenant replacements for the old covenant Temple. Thus, the new heaven and new earth are not a future end-of-the-world reality, but they are a present part of our new covenant experience.

In chapter 6, we find these martyrs under the throne crying out for justice, but in chapter 20, the same martyrs are given thrones of their own to reign upon! We know this because of the next verse, which says, “( The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection” (Rev. 20: 5). This phrase, “The rest of the dead,” makes it clear that this group of people is a select number from among the dead…The ones in question, “The rest of the dead,” were those who died in the AD 70 destruction, the non-believing Jews.

The first century martyrs were given thrones to reign upon in the Kingdom; this occurred in Revelation 11, when Jesus was declared the King over the kingdoms of the earth  (see Rev. 11: 15) and the first resurrection was indicated (see Rev. 11: 17– 18). We now live inside the Kingdom of God on the earth…
